Panoramic radiography (OPG)

A single image covering both jaws, the teeth, the sinuses and the joints — the usual starting point for general dental and orthodontic assessment.

Panoramic radiography (OPG)

A panoramic radiograph shows the upper and lower teeth, the jaw bone, the maxillary sinuses and the temporomandibular joints in one image. It is normally the first step in a general assessment.

Common uses

  • Assessing wisdom teeth and other impacted teeth
  • General evaluation before orthodontic or prosthetic treatment
  • Investigating jaw lesions and cysts
  • Following healing after surgery

During the scan

You will stand or sit with your chin on a rest while the unit rotates around your head for roughly 15–20 seconds. You need to stay still and, when asked, hold your tongue against the roof of your mouth.
