Periapical & bitewing radiography
High-detail digital intraoral imaging of individual teeth, their roots and the surrounding bone — the lowest-dose dental imaging available.
Intraoral radiographs are acquired with a digital sensor and provide the highest level of detail for one or a few teeth.
Periapical
Shows the whole tooth from crown to root apex plus the surrounding bone; used to assess apical infection, root canal treatment and fractures.
Bitewing
Shows the crowns of the upper and lower teeth together and is the best method for detecting interproximal caries and assessing bone levels.
Doses from modern digital sensors are very low; see the radiation calculator for a comparison.
