How to prepare for your imaging appointment
Preparing for oral and maxillofacial imaging is simple. This short checklist makes your visit quicker and your images better.
What to bring
- The written request from your dentist or physician
- Your national ID card
- Your insurance booklet or referral letter, if using insurance
- Any relevant previous images and reports
Before entering the scan room
Metal on the head and neck creates artefacts. Please remove:
- Earrings, necklaces and piercings
- Hair pins and metal clips
- Glasses and hearing aids
- Removable dentures
During the scan
The most important thing is to stay still. Even small movements can blur the image and require a repeat — which means additional dose. The technician will guide you; please ask if anything is unclear.
Things to tell us
- If you are, or may be, pregnant
- Difficulty swallowing or a strong gag reflex
- Any difficulty standing or staying still
- Claustrophobia
After the scan
X-ray imaging leaves nothing behind in your body and you can return to normal activity straight away. The specialist radiologist's written report follows shortly, and our reception team will let you know when it is ready.
